opensecrets.org is published by The Center for Responsive Politics-- "a non-partisan, non-profit research group based in Washington, D.C. that tracks money in politics, and its effect on elections and public policy. The Center conducts computer-based research on campaign finance issues for the news media, academics, activists, and the public at large." You can "get local" by searching for federal campaign contributions by state or zip code. Unfortunately, the Who's My Rep feature didn't work for the zip code 10001-7604 or the addresses I tried, and Find a Politician doesn't work with Councilmembers--apparently, it only works for "Politicians featured on opensecrets.org," whoever they are. The Tour the Site feature makes opensecrets.org user-friendly.
